Foundations of Maya Yoga is a course designed to introduce you to the practice of yoga safely and deliberately. Maya yoga is known for being precise with the alignment of the body and mind and this course begins with a clear explanation of what you can do to keep yourself safe while practicing. It explains what Maya yoga is and what makes it different from other systems of yoga. There are several different genres of poses ranging from standing poses to forward bends, Backbends, twists and restorative yoga. Each session in this course focuses on one of these genres and builds on the previous to give you a solid working foundation to practice. Yoga is a life support system and is accessible to everyone and to all bodies. Introduction to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are considered to be one of the most important texts for yoga students. In them, Patanjali methodically shows how to navigate our consciousness and manage our thoughts and emotions. A sutra is an aphorism, which basically means few words, big meaning. They are written in sutra form to be easily memorized and chanted repeatedly. This course focuses on sutras drawn from the first and second chapters or padas, as they are known in Sanskrit.
