teacher training

The Maya Yoga Teacher Training program with Nicki Doane is fully accredited with the Yoga Alliance.  The trainings are designed as 100 hour modules.  Two 100 hour modules combine to create a 200 hour YA RYT (Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher), with a mandatory Maya Yoga Foundations module (100 hours) needed as one of the two modules.

To earn a 500 hour YA RYT, you must complete an additional 3 modules of 100 hours each. Nicki has themed these training module courses  to cover different aspects of yoga. There is a training focused on the foundations of Maya Yoga which is mandatory when creating a 200 hour YA RYT. Other topics include Maya Yoga Citta Flow with a focus on adjustments and teaching conscious vinyasa flow yoga, and a training focused on yoga philosophy and the yoga sutras of Patanjali.

Foundational Teacher Training (100 Hour Module)

This course is required to obtain a 200 Hour YA RYT certificate with Nicki Doane at Maya Yoga.  In this 100 hour module you will learn the basics of alignment in asana as Nicki firmly believes that alignment of the body influences and affects the alignment of the mind. Nicki’s approach to Maya yoga is very personal and each student will learn plenty about themselves, both body and mind.  One of the most important ingredients in being a great yoga teacher is having a personal yoga practice which in Sanskrit is called “sadhana”.  In this training we will begin to explore “svadhyaya”- the study of the self, what that entails and how to develop a personal practice.  As yoga is not only a physical practice,  some yoga philosophy and psychology will be introduced to help bridge the connection between the body and the mind.  Maya yoga is about honoring and serving individual students and helping mentor teachers that are deeply interested in helping people through the art and science of yoga. This course will begin to shed light on your personal habits and how to address them.  We will work as a group learning from each other. Each training is always shaped by the students who attend. It is an organic process with core principles guiding the experience.  This Foundation course may be combined with another 100 hour training with Nicki to create a 200 hour YA teaching certificate.

Some topics covered in this training include: Asanas (postures), Pranayama (breathing techniques), Bandhas (subtle body energy tools), Seeing and Understanding Bodies, Hands on Adjustments, Sequencing, Communication Skills, Anatomy & Physiology, Modifications of Poses, Chanting, Meditation, Chakra Exploration, Yoga Ethics, Lifestyle, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and Yoga Philosophy.

July 16 - 29, 2019

Maya Yoga is a highly conscious style of yoga that believes the body and mind are inextricably linked. Maya Yoga vinyasa fusion is a style of yoga that Nicki teaches that draws on her extensive study of both Ashtanga yoga and Iyengar yoga. Nicki believes that the individual student is worth paying attention to and she teaches classes that honor both the individual and the group. "Citta” is the Sanskrit word for consciousness, both within and beyond. One of the meanings of vinyasa is an intelligent sequence of postures.  This training will teach you how to create vinyasa practices that are both intelligent, challenging, and safe for all students.  It is not enough to only be conscious of our bodies in asana, we must also be conscious of our mind when we practice and throughout our day.  In this training, we will continue to study the yoga sutras of Patanjali as they give support to us in our practice and help us to understand the connection of the mind in consciousness.  We will chant yoga sutras daily as part of the morning practice and will study them throughout the course.  There will be opportunity to teach the vinyasa sequences you create and to receive feedback on your teaching.
This course may be combined with the 100 Hour Foundations course to create a 200 Hour YA RYT certificate.

Join Nicki at the Maya Yoga studio on Maui to continue to develop both your yoga practice and your teaching.

December 1 - 14, 2019

This training taught by Nicki Doane will focus on the more subtle internal aspects of Yoga Sadhana or practice which include the workings and gyrations of the mind.  Nicki has a deep love and respect for the yoga sutras of Patanjali and is fascinated by how they continue to apply and relate to everyday life as well as to our experience on the mat.  In this training you will experience what it means to intertwine yoga philosophy with asana and how it can deepen your personal practice.  We will study the yoga sutras of Patanjali as they relate to asana and you will learn how to teach from your authentic self; bringing a potency to your teaching that is uniquely yours.  This 100 Hour Maya Yoga Teacher Training Module can be applied to the 200 and 300 hour Yoga Alliance certification, as well as continuing education.
